Dermal fillers & wrinkle treatment

With age, the skin naturally loses volume, elasticity and firmness – cheeks look more hollow and wrinkles become more pronounced. An injection of hyaluronic acid, commonly called a filler, can restore lost volume in a targeted way and gently smooth wrinkles without changing your natural facial features. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in the body and binds moisture, which is why it is very well tolerated. I carry out this treatment in my practices in St. Andrä-Wördern, Thörl and Frankenfels.

What can wrinkle fillers be used for?

Fillers are particularly suitable for treating nasolabial folds (the lines between the nose and the corners of the mouth), hollow cheeks or cheeks losing volume, thinning lips and for contouring the chin or cheekbones to harmonise the facial profile. Fine lines around the mouth or hollows under the eyes can often be softened as well. A satisfying treatment requires a realistic treatment goal agreed with me and good general skin condition without acute inflammation in the treatment area. With certain pre-existing conditions, during pregnancy and breastfeeding or with known intolerance to hyaluronic acid products, treatment should not be carried out; this is clarified carefully in the consultation.

What does the treatment involve?

After a detailed consultation about your goals, the realistically achievable effect and the amount likely to be needed, the hyaluronic acid product is placed layer by layer into the agreed areas using a very fine needle or a blunt cannula. Depending on sensitivity and treatment area, a local anaesthetic cream can be applied beforehand, and many modern products already contain a local anaesthetic. Including the consultation, the appointment usually takes 30 to 45 minutes. The result is visible immediately after treatment; slight initial swelling caused by the injection and the fluid injected with it subsides completely after one to two days. Over the following two to four weeks the material gains a little more volume until the final result shows.

How long does the result last?

In the first days after treatment, mild swelling, redness or small bruises may appear at the injection sites; they usually disappear completely on their own within a few days and can easily be covered with make-up. You should avoid intense exercise, sauna, solarium and strong sunlight for the first 48 hours after treatment to keep swelling and the risk of complications low. Depending on the product used, the treated area and individual metabolism, the result usually lasts between six and twelve months before the body's own hyaluronidase gradually breaks down the hyaluronic acid completely.

What does treatment cost?

The costs depend on the amount of product used, the number of areas treated and the complexity of the desired correction; I will be happy to inform you about this in detail in the consultation. When choosing a wrinkle treatment, I generally recommend focusing not primarily on price but on the specialist qualifications of the person treating you and on approved, traceable brand-name products, as substances injected into the face can have lasting consequences.

Note: All times given are general guidelines and may vary depending on your individual findings. I will be happy to explain the procedure and costs in detail after a personal examination.

Personal consultation before every treatment

Before every treatment I take time for a detailed personal consultation: together we go through your medical history, discuss realistic expectations and answer all open questions before you decide on an appointment. Only with a complete medical history and a careful examination can I assess whether a treatment is suitable for you and which approach makes sense in your case.

Usually six to twelve months, depending on the product, treatment area and metabolism. After that, the body gradually breaks down the hyaluronic acid.

Is a filler treatment uncomfortable?

The products are injected with very fine needles or blunt cannulas. Depending on sensitivity, an anaesthetic cream can be applied beforehand, and many products already contain a local anaesthetic.
