Treatment with your own blood

PRF treatment

In PRF treatment – short for platelet-rich fibrin – I obtain a concentrate rich in platelets and the body's own growth factors from a small amount of your own blood. I use PRF in two areas: in dentistry and oral surgery to support wound and bone healing, and in aesthetic medicine for skin rejuvenation (facial rejuvenation) and the treatment of scars.

What is PRF?

For PRF, a little blood is taken from a vein in the arm – similar to an ordinary blood test – and processed immediately in a centrifuge. This separates the components of the blood: a fibrin-rich layer forms containing platelets and white blood cells, which gradually release their growth factors. Because PRF is made exclusively from your own blood without additives, it is considered well tolerated.

PRF in dentistry and oral surgery

In dental and oral surgical procedures, PRF can support the healing of soft tissue and bone. I use it, for example, after a tooth extraction or wisdom tooth removal to cover and stabilise the wound, and in implant procedures and bone grafting, where PRF can be mixed with bone substitute material or used as a membrane. Whether PRF makes sense for your procedure is something I discuss with you beforehand.

Skin rejuvenation and scar treatment with PRF

For skin rejuvenation (facial rejuvenation), liquid PRF is introduced into the skin with very fine needles. The aim is to stimulate the skin's own regeneration; if the starting situation is suitable, this can improve skin quality, for example with fine lines or tired-looking skin. Scars, for example after acne or operations, can also be treated with PRF to improve their appearance. The effect develops gradually; in many cases several sessions make sense.

What does the treatment involve?

After the consultation, I take a small amount of blood and process it in the centrifuge. I then use the PRF obtained immediately – depending on the application, during the oral surgical procedure or as a skin treatment. After an aesthetic treatment, redness, slight swelling or small bruises may appear at the injection sites for a short time; they usually subside within a few days.

PRF in Lower Austria and Styria

I offer PRF treatments in my practices in St. Andrä-Wördern and Frankenfels in Lower Austria and in Thörl in Styria, and as part of larger procedures also at University Hospital St. Pölten. A consultation is possible at all my locations. You will find addresses and directions under Oral surgeon in Lower Austria and Oral surgeon in Styria.

What does treatment cost?

The costs depend on what PRF is used for – alongside a dental or oral surgical procedure or as an aesthetic treatment. I will be happy to explain the costs of the different treatments to you in person.

Note: All information is general. Which treatment is suitable for you can only be assessed after a personal examination.

Personal consultation before every treatment

Before every treatment I take time for a detailed personal consultation: together we go through your medical history, discuss realistic expectations and answer all open questions before you decide on an appointment. Only with a complete medical history and a careful examination can I assess whether a treatment is suitable for you and which approach makes sense in your case.
