Rhinoplasty (nose correction)
The nose shapes the face and is at the same time crucial for breathing freely. In a rhinoplasty – a nose correction or “nose job” – the shape and function of the nose are improved surgically. As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, I perform rhinoplasties at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of University Hospital St. Pölten – for medical reasons, after injuries, for aesthetic reasons or together with jaw surgery.
When is rhinoplasty an option?
- Obstructed nasal breathing – for example due to a deviated septum or a narrowed nose
- After injuries – for example when the nose has healed crooked after a broken nose
- For aesthetic reasons – for example with a nasal hump, a crooked nose or a nasal tip perceived as bothersome
- Together with jaw surgery – during orthognathic surgery, the nose can be treated at the same time in suitable cases, in coordination with the jaw correction
What does the treatment involve?
It begins with a detailed conversation and an examination in which I assess the shape of your nose and your nasal breathing. Together we discuss what should change and what is realistic in your situation. The procedure takes place at University Hospital St. Pölten; I discuss the anaesthesia, length of stay and aftercare with you in detail beforehand.
How does healing go?
After the procedure, a splint usually stabilises the nose for about a week. Swelling and bruising in the face usually largely subside within one to two weeks. It often takes several months for the final shape to show, because the tissue settles slowly. Regular follow-up appointments are important during this time.
Who covers the costs?
If rhinoplasty is medically necessary – for example because of obstructed nasal breathing or after an injury – statutory health insurance covers the costs. I will be happy to explain the procedure and costs of an aesthetic rhinoplasty. A consultation is possible at all my locations.
Personal consultation before every treatment
Before every treatment I take time for a detailed personal consultation: together we go through your medical history, discuss realistic expectations and answer all open questions before you decide on an appointment. Only with a complete medical history and a careful examination can I assess whether a treatment is suitable for you and which approach makes sense in your case.
